All those Web rumors were right: There was indeed a big shocker this season on "House." If you're a fan of the show and haven't seen this week's episode, stop reading now and head straight to your TiVo.

Monday night's big development was big and out of the blue, as promised. Kal Penn's Lawrence Kutner committed suicide, and no one saw it coming, not even House. So, once again, we turned to the Internet to straighten it all out for us.

Maureen Ryan of the Chicago Tribune says Kutner's death "smelled of manipulation," and the online "memorial" to Kutner was "cheesy." She goes on to take issue with other plot lines in the episode and with this season in general: "From one of the most smartly structured shows on television it has become a collection of things that happen, plus cutting one-liners and Huddy flirtation."

Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello offers an exclusive interview with Penn, who explains his departure from the show: "I was incredibly honored a couple of months ago to get the opportunity to go work in the White House. I got to know the President and some of the staff during the campaign and had expressed interest in working there, so I'm going to be the associate director in the White House office of public liaison."

Ausiello also talked with executive producers David Shore and Katie Jacobs about the decision to have Kutner commit suicide. Shore explained it this way: "The suicide was essential to [the story]. The lack of reason behind it — the lack of answers — was what I responded to and is what I got excited about. House, the man of answers, doesn't have an answer about this guy who he has worked with for two years."

So, did you see the show? What did you think? Will you miss Kutner?
