In this 1986 photo, Academy Award winner Joan Fontaine portrays a wealthy San Francisco matron who tries to help a steel magnate find his wayward wife in "Crossings.' On Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, longtime friend Noel Beutel announced that she died in her sleep in her Carmel, Calif., home.
