The YWCA of Greater Atlanta honored Atlanta Dream owner Kathy Betty as the 2011 Woman of Achievement at its Salute to Women of Achievement Luncheon, held May 18 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. The event, themed "Life is But a Dream," featured entertainment by "Dreamgirl" Jennifer Holliday. Also honored at the luncheon were Rabbi Analia Bortz of Congregation Or Hadash; Molly Burke, general counsel for GE Energy Services; Emily Ellison, co-founder of the Atlanta Girls' School; Elizabeth Kiss, president of Agnes Scott College; Penny McIntyre, group president of office products for Newell Rubbermaid; Georgia Court of Appeals Judge M. Yvette Miller; Sheryl Sellaway, executive director for public relations for Verizon Wireless; and Geri Thomas, Georgia president of Bank of America. The 2011 College Woman of Achievement and recipient of the Carol Dunlap Reiser Scholarship was McNair High School senior Kayla Hogan. "To share the stage this year with such incredible women as an honoree was such an amazing experience," Betty said.
Name it like Beckham
Soccer star David Beckham and his wife Victoria (the artist formerly known as Posh Spice), might name their baby daughter, due in July, after our fair city. The Sun newspaper in London, citing sources close to the family, reported that "Atlanta" was among the names being considered for the impending bundle of joy. Another paper from across the pond, the Daily Mail, quoted a spokesperson for the couple denying the tidbit. But it wouldn't be out of character for the Beckhams, who evidently prefer spinning a globe over thumbing through baby name books for ideas on what to call their kids. They have a son named Brooklyn.
