LAWRENCEVILLE
Swing Night at Aurora Theatre
That have-a-nice-day decade comes back with the plush intensity of shag carpet with the Flashback to the 1970s concert. The Metro Jazz Club doesn’t need a soapbox to proclaim the importance of the tunes from that era. Instead the 17-piece band takes a stand on platform shoes, plucking songs from the time period and infusing them with big band style. The group dusts off the music of Earth, Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, Chicago and many others while giving it all a nice dose of ’70s sparkle. Saxophonist Gary Dalton leads the group with vocals coming from chanteuse Maxine Cummins, soulful tenor Eric Moore and Ann-Carol Pence, Aurora’s associate producer. Audience members can roll along with them by coming dressed in bell bottoms, wide-collar shirts, and disco gowns. Prizes go to those donning the best ’70s duds.
8 p.m. June 25. $18. Aurora Theatre, 128 Pike St., Lawrenceville. 678-226-6222, www.auroratheatre.com.
