CONYERS

The Royal Alpaca Challenge at Georgia International Horse Park

Those with a fascination for alpacas -- those fluffy, domesticated, llama-like creatures from South America-- show their love at this two-day event. Alpacas come in two different breeds. The huacaya boast fluffier coats, and the suri rock draping fiber that looks like dreadlocks. Their gentle reputation and cute looks allow kids the opportunity to get up close and personal at the event. Alpaca owners have their animals compete in the show ring for cash and prizes. Yet alpacas aren’t one-trick creatures. Alpaca fiber demonstrations take place in the Fiber Lounge. Folks use the fiber to create handmade goods such as hats, sweaters and scarves. Vendors will be selling many of these items and a wealth of additional alpaca-related products. Various other goodies will be up for grabs in a silent auction.

9 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 5; 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 6. Free. Georgia International Horse Park, 1996 Centennial Olympic Parkway, Conyers. www.georgia-alpaca.com.

LAWRENCEVILLE

Swing Night at Aurora Theatre

It may be the suburbs, but what happens in LawrenceVegas stays in LawrenceVegas. Lawrenceville’s Aurora Theatre brings Vegas-style big band entertainment back to the stage. The Metro Jazz Club, a 17-piece show band, combines Sin City’s Rat Pack heyday with a contemporary spirit. Jazz saxophonist Gary Dalton leads the musical charge with vocalists Maxine Cummins, Jason Joines and Eric Moore crooning the classics. Comedy magician Arthur Atsma hosts the event using his sleight-of-hand skills and stage wizardry to keep things rolling like a pair of snake eyes.

8 p.m. Nov. 5. $18. Aurora Theatre, 128 Pike St., Lawrenceville. 678-226-6222, www.auroratheatre.com.

“Kosher Lutherans” at St. James’ Episcopal Church

Lane Teilhaber directs this stage comedy written by William M. Downs about a sweet, infertile couple who cross paths with a pregnant girl from Iowa. The unmarried gal offers them her soon-to-be-born baby for adoption, but there’s a catch: She’s Christian, and they’re Jewish. So the couple trades latkes for lutefisk by posing as Lutherans. The show is brought to life by Polk Street Players with a cast featuring Dana Barrett, Sean O’Rourke, Bronwyn Glantzberg, Greg Fitzgerald and Laura Hassett. “Kosher Lutherans” is Polk Street Players’ entry in the Metropolitan Atlanta Theater Awards.
