Are you ready for some filming? "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk," directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ang Lee, will set up shop at the Georgia Dome starting later this month. We're told the project will film there from April 20 into the first week of May.

The film is based on the novel by Ben Fountain, about U.S. soldiers sent on a "victory tour" to rally support for the war in Iraq. The cast includes Vin Diesel, Kristen Stewart, Garrett Hedlund, Steve Martin and Chris Tucker along with Atlanta's own Ric Reitz.

With a dome to fill, casting folks are in the market for lots of extras. We'll post opportunities for you online at buzz.blog.ajc.com.

Fun fete benefits museum

Will you be free and in a festive mood Friday night? Veneralia, the chief annual fundraiser for the Michael C. Carlos Museum on the Emory University campus, starts at 7 p.m. at Imperial Fez, 2285 Peachtree Road, Atlanta. The attire is “festive.”

The event, chaired by Rebecca and Sidney Yarbrough III with patron chairs Reid Mizell and Bernard van der Lande and honorary chairs Sally and Jim Morgens, will feature a Moroccan dinner, traditional Arabic musicians, belly dancing and fire dancing. Acclaimed local art dealer and appraiser Spalding Nix will host the live auction. Afterward, DJ Kemit will preside during the after-party.

Key sponsors include Nicole and Chris Carlos, Ruth Magness Rollins and the Yarbroughs, along with Marc C. Taub, Tara and Richard Aaronson, Sally and Joe Gladden, Sara and John Shlesinger and Dina and Ed Snow.

Tickets are $500 for individuals. If your evening is already booked but you'd like to join the after-party, those tickets are $35. See carlos.emory.edu/veneralia2015 or call 404-727-2115.

Veneralia supports the Carlos’ mission “to collect, preserve, exhibit and interpret art and artifacts from antiquity to the present in order to provide unique opportunities for education and enrichment in the community, and to promote interdisciplinary teaching and research at Emory University.”
