For weeks now we’ve been chasing down tips regarding the highly anticipated “Anchorman 2,” which has been shooting in Atlanta. Security’s been tight around filming locations, including Peachtree Center, private homes in Buckhead and Inman Park and the Silver Skillet and Olympic Flame restaurants. The signs directing crew members around town use coded abbreviations.
So we turned to Conan O’Brien for help. Coco’s late-night talk show, which airs at 11 p.m. weeknights on Atlanta-based TBS, taped this week at The Tabernacle downtown. AM2 cast member Paul Rudd visited on Tuesday. Eager for intel, we did, too.
“We’re in week three,” said Rudd, sporting the power mustache and wavy locks he had to grow out to play his character, Brian Fantana. (Actually he and fellow cast members Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, David Koechner, Christina Applegate and James Marsden along with Adam Goodman, president of Paramount Film Group, were first spotted in Atlanta back in February. Close enough.)
“It’s coming out later on in the year,” Rudd said. “I think maybe in December.”
And that’s about all the “Anchorman” info he had to offer.
“It’s been hard because you can’t really talk about it,” Rudd said.
“It’s all on lock-down, what’s in the script, what’s going to happen,” O’Brien noted.
Yep.
Instead, after Rudd trotted out his frequent movie prank by playing a spoof clip of a random sci-fi movie instead of the promised “Anchorman 2” clip, he and O’Brien discussed local attractions.
“I have been to the Georgia Aquarium twice,” Rudd said. “It is very impressive.”
He sounded less impressed with Legoland at Phipps Plaza. Then they discussed sports, since the NCAA Final Four comes to Atlanta this week. For some reason that veered into a story about how a 10-year-old Rudd was taken to a football game back in the day and got to visit the locker room afterward, where he met a bunch of naked players.
So. There’s that.
In brighter AM2 news we got our hands on these great photos of Ferrell strutting his Ron Burgundy self down the streets of Midtown the other day. Y’all stay classy and we’ll stay busy, reporting on this as best we can.
