To mark its 20th anniversary this year, the Fernbank Museum of Natural History will host an exhibit unlike any Atlanta — or much of the rest of the world — has ever seen: the largest touring collection of 13th-century Mongolian artifacts ever assembled.

From Oct. 5 through Jan. 21, 2013, more than 200 artifacts tied to the legendary Genghis Khan will be on display, including rarely exhibited and never-before-viewed coins, armor, jewelry, robes, relics, weaponry, a mummy and more. Videos and dioramas recount the story of Khan's life and reign as a fierce warrior and innovative leader.

"It's a powerful experience to step back in time, see real artifacts from hundreds of years ago, and encounter history firsthand," curator Bobbi Hohmann said.
