The Atlanta Braves are bringing back old-school hip-hop as well as classic rock and country for the Braves Summer Concert Series.
Rodney Atkins will open the season, performing before the game in Fan Plaza April 1 and then crooning the national anthem before the Braves take on the Philadelphia Phillies.
Run-D.M.C., the hip-hop pioneers and members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, will perform at Turner Field after the June 1 game against the Washington Nationals. This marks the group’s first performance in Atlanta since 2001. While Jason “Jam Master Jay” Mizell was shot and killed in Queens more than a decade ago, Joseph “Run” Simmons and Darryl “D.M.C.” McDaniels have reunited several times over the past few years.
On June 13, the Steve Miller Band will take the field after the Braves matchup with the Cincinatti Reds. Miller’s trove of hits, including “The Joker,” “Fly Like an Eagle” and “Abracadabra,” should summon plenty of post-game sing-alongs. The band last played Atlanta in 2011 at Chastain Park Amphitheatre.
And coming to town for the first time since 2009 are those guys who want you to “Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)” – Big & Rich with Cowboy Troy – who will play September 1 after the Braves game against the Miami Marlins
