Sea lion pups named at Georgia Aquarium

The Georgia Aquarium has a couple of interstellar additions to their sea lion squad.

Neptune and Jupiter are the official names of the young duo that arrived at the aquarium earlier this year after being rescued and rehabilitated at The Marine Mammal Center in California. The pair, along with 3,000 other sea lions this year, was found alone, malnourished and stranded along the California coast. They’re joining adult male and female sea lions at Georgia Aquarium, which will help them learn sea lion hierarchy and socialization skills.

The names of the two pups were chosen by participants in the Name our Sea Lions online contest, which took place throughout November.

Georgia Aquarium’s new Sun Trust-sponsored sea lion gallery is slated to open in spring of 2016.
