Well, at least they’re waiting until after Halloween.
Been fretting that the holiday season doesn’t last long enough in Atlanta? Well, do we have some good tidings of great joy to bring unto you! The 2016 “Lighting of Atlantic Station” will take place on November 19.
That's a Saturday. And – for those of you keeping score at home – a full five days before Thanksgiving.
(Hey, it's nowhere near as bad – or as good, depending on your perspective – as what they're doing on the Hallmark Channel this year. The cable channel recently announced that this year's version of its popular "Countdown to Christmas" holiday movie marathon will begin on Oct. 28 and run straight through to New Year's Day).
The Lighting is an annual event that signals the return of such seasonal favorites as SKATE Atlantic Station and Santa's Cottage to the hip shopping and entertainment district on the Westside. So what if it's still so hot here we think Santa might be better off in Uga's air-conditioned doghouse than a "cottage?" 'Tis the season!
Almost.
If you go:
From 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, join Atlantic Station for the welcoming of Santa Claus, live music and activities. The Holiday Parade begins at 7:30 p.m., followed by the lighting of the tree and ending with fireworks . Long-time 11 Alive evening news anchor Brenda Wood will emcee the event. Atlantic Station, 1380 Atlantic Dr NW, Atlanta, GA 30363.
Check with Atlantic Station's Facebook page for more details about the Lighting and other holiday activities.
