Five Atlanta public gardens — the Atlanta History Center, the Carter Center, Atlanta Botanical Garden, Fernbank Museum of Natural History and Smith-Gilbert Arboretum — offer guests a chance to interact with nature within the city.

The Carter Center's Rose Garden is a meticulous space of plants with more than 40 colorful varieties.

The Japanese Garden at the Carter Center contains Japanese maples, rhododendrons, azaleas and other plants.

The Rose Garden is decorated with circular sidewalks and garden benches to take in the scene.

The Japanese Garden's large and small waterfalls represent President Carter and Rosalynn Carter, respectively.

Visitors to the Japanese Garden's two lakes can fish for bass, catfish, mud carp and brim.

Fernbank Science Center's Rose Garden is a maze of rose beds located on the museum grounds. It showcases nearly 1,500 roses.

Fernbank Forest, located a few blocks away behind the Science Center, spans 65 acres of natural forest and wildlife, and includes 2 miles of walking trails.

The gazebo is the centerpiece of the Atlanta History Center's Cherry Sims Asian American Garden, where Asian and American plants are paired.

Betty Edwards walks with a group from Kennesaw United Methodist Church past an Oak Leaf hydrangea at Smith-Gilbert Arboretum. Located in Kennesaw at 2382 Pine Mountain Road, the arboretum has 16 pastoral acres filled with over 3,000 trees, shrubs and flowers.

A white mulberry tree at the Smith-Gilbert Arboretum fell several years ago and re-rooted itself.

Atlanta Botanical Garden draws lots of families because of the Children's Garden as well as special activities like A Froggy Father's Day Celebration.

The Fuqua Orchid Center at the Atlanta Botanical Garden showcases a few kinetic sculptures from the current exhibit "Sculpture in Motion: Art choreographed by Nature." The exhibit features 25 sculptures that move with the flow of natural energy.
