Apollo's Amateur Night honors Jackson

Apollo Theater's Amateur Night honors Michael Jackson

Tributes to Michael Jackson continued Wednesday at the Apollo Theater, where the weekly Amateur Night turned into a Michael Jackson celebration. Mike Rios from Elizabeth, N.J., wore a Jackson-inspired outfit and danced to the 1987 hit "Bad."

C.P. Lacey came on stage in a black suit, white socks, black wig and sunglasses.

The crowd roared as C.P. Lacey performed "Man In the Mirror" and "Billie Jean."

Mike Rios, 16, says of his Jackson act: "I just watched his video, and I practiced."

Members of the dance group Rythem City perform Wednesday night.

Rythem City dancers got the crowd going with a "Thriller" dance. In 1967, the Jackson 5 won Amateur Night at the Apollo when Michael Jackson sang the Motown hit "Who's Lovin' You."

In grand Apollo tradition, the audience cheers and jeers performers who take the stage for Amateur Night.

Wednesday's event followed Tuesday's Apollo memorial service, where thousands of fans watched a video tribute to Jackson and danced to his songs.
