Santa Fe style defines Smyrna home

"We love relaxing by the pool," said Susan.

Susan says the manicured garden always makes the backyard feel inviting.

"I maintain the front and backyard regularly," said Susan.

"The Tiki hut was made by Laughing Sun Renovations. Sam wanted something to hide the pool pump, muffle the noise, and keep debris off of it and we decided on a Tiki hut. It's not functional but adds a great look to the garden and pool," said Susan.

"I wanted a unique piece for the mantle, so we had a Turkish wheat thrashing board used as a mantle," said Susan.

"Stacked stone was not standard with construction in the neighborhood, but I had the builder add it to our home. The lamp is a reproduction of a cactus boot with a Santa Fe style lamp shade. The chair and architectural metal piece were put in that space because I thought they added a cool Southwestern feel to the room," said Susan.

"Mirror, candelabra and rustic hutch were chosen because they had a very definitive Southwestern charm. I love the big iron feel of the mirror and think that it looks great with the candelabra. I wanted the room to be warm, inviting and even have a sexy feel. Dark hues in the room aren't foreboding but inviting," said Susan.

Master bedroom: "We kept the Santa Fe style throughout the house. The room features many different colors reminiscent of a Santa Fe style decor. The room has a golden hue and the fabrics in the room vary in patterns and warm colors. The chandelier keeps lamps off of the end table and adds a warm glow to the room," said Susan.

The master bath maintains the Santa Fe decorative theme.

Guest Room: "I got the parrot pictures at a home goods store and just loved them. I loved them so much that I designed the entire room around them. I tried to match the colors of the posters to as many elements in the room as possible. I think the room is quirky and a lot of fun," said Susan.

"The mirror is from Chicago artist Chris Carey. I love the playfulness of it and wanted to add it to my home," said Susan.

"My Aunt found the center island with butcher block top at Eddy West Showroom at the Merchandise mart and I fell in love with it. When the house was finished we brought it into the space, and hung a pot rack over it to give it a rustic feel," said Susan.

"Pickled vegetables, dried ancho chills, garlic and family photos are used decoratively and also add personal touches to the space," said Susan. "We have standard appliances in the kitchen, but chose to have custom maple cabinets installed because we loved the look and feel of the maple."

"I used reds in the dining room for a warm glow. Its a very relaxed feeling while we eat. When the pendant lighting is low and the candles are lit, it envelopes you in a soothing warmth," said Susan.

"I wanted my office to feel warm and inviting," said Susan. "I love my vases, the comfy sofa and my UM license plate on the desk. The furniture was purchased at the Eddy West Showroom at the Merchandise mart."

"The set of four chairs and table were bought in Arizona. They are covered with pigskin with painted southwestern decorative motifs," said Susan.

"The abacus reminds me of the old time way of doing math and the chair had an antique Southwestern feel so I felt that it would look great in the room," said Susan.
