Ranch redo challenge in Roswell

A fun and functional Roswell home

Amanda Staines has renovated several homes, but the ranch house on 1.5 wooded acres in Roswell proved to be a big challenge. She faced structural issues, as well as 30-year-old materials that had become the focus of class-action lawsuits. But once those hurdles were behind her, Staines said she had fun choosing the flooring, granite countertops, fireplace stone and exterior paint color for her home.

Lamps purchased at the Uttermost at the AmericasMart, (in downtown Atlanta) add a whimsical feel to the room. The kitchen was completely renovated. A center Island was completely replaced, and cabinets were refaced, added new granite counter tops, removed a 30 year old trash compactor and replaced it with a cabinet trash can pull out. " We chose glazed cream cabinets with dark accents cabinets to make the room bright without being white."

(The fireplace) "We completely ripped out the old fireplace and replaced it with a stacked-stone fireplace. We chose a light color because it balances the natural light in the room. Added photos of beach scenes to reflect her love of the ocean." She said.

(Dining room)The dining room is filled with Eccochic furniture. Items are made from natural materials. Chairs are made of banana leaf. The dinning room table the wine hutch feature feature hand carved rosettes. Sconces we added to help maintain a rustic theme in the room.

"We chose a light color because it balances the natural light in the room," Staines said.

"The master bedroom is kind of small. The furniture is small but tall because of the limited space. This helps to exaggerate the size of the room. If you are dealing with a small space it is a good idea to use bright colors to enlarge the room," Staines said.

They ripped out the old fireplace and replaced it with a stacked-stone fireplace.

The son's room is playful but also has space for him to work at his desk with a computer.

Home office: "I work from home so creating a comfortable yet functional environment was key," Staines said.
