Private Quarters: Transitional home for entertaining in Alpharetta

4,000 square feet, five bedrooms, four-and-a-half baths

The living room is a mix of clever furniture, such as the barn door coffee table from Outrageous Interiors, and clearance buys, such as the end tables, linen sofas and the ottoman, from RH and Crate and Barrel. Text by Lori Johnston

Built-in benches, around a table and chairs from RH (formerly Restoration Hardware), are among the home's custom elements and maximize seating space in the breakfast nook. Over the fireplace, the mirror is from IKEA and frame is from Lakewood 400 Antiques Market. The burlap ottoman also is from RH.

Open cabinets, glass pendants and tile backsplash in a neutral palette are transitional design elements in the kitchen, which has granite countertops and bar stools from Pottery Barn that are slipcovered.

Textiles complete the look in the kitchen, which has a table runner from West Elm and pillows from Etsy, HomeGoods and Lisa Gabrielson Design at Queen of Hearts Antiques & Interiors. The table and chairs are from RH, formerly Restoration Hardware.

A dining room, with wainscoting on the walls, is no more. Now it's a kid- and adult-friendly playroom with a slipcovered IKEA sofa and cowhide rug from World Market. A table from RH and chandelier from West Elm keep the decor from having a romper room look. The PLAY letters are from JoAnn Fabrics and the Tee Pee is from Etsy with a small HomeGoods end table.

In the nursery, homeowner Kristen Yonson selected a Pottery Barn daybed with a trundle and topped with seersucker bedding from Serena & Lily. Items from Etsy in the home include the "You Are My Sunshine" Sign, from the Go Jump in the Lake store.

The boys' bedroom has a Pow! Bam! Kapow! effect with superhero decals from Pottery Barn Kids, cityscape from Etsy, and Batman and Captain America pillows, also from Etsy. The iron bookshelf between the beds is from RH, with iron trunks at the end from Vagabond Vintage. Bedding is from Serena & Lily, PB Kids and Target.

The cheerful guest bedroom features Pottery Barn Outlet finds, including the bed, bedding, side tables and lamps. The vintage-looking sign over the bed is from HomeGoods.

Family photos are perched on the headboard, which was purchased at the Yellow Daisy Festival. Other artistic elements are a hand-made clear glass jug lamp found at the Crabapple Antique & Art Festival, on a mirrored dresser from Horchow. The master bedroom walls are painted RH's Slate. The bedding is from Pottery Barn.

By adding shiplap for a farmhouse detail on the walls, and board and batten trim to the main level and up the stairwell in 2014, the homeowners updated and brightened up the home.

This spot worthy of a "shelfie" photo has a combination of accessories from the Yellow Daisy Festival, West Elm, HomeGoods, Barnes & Noble, Pottery Barn Outlet and AmericasMart.

Pillows from Etsy, HomeGoods and Lisa Gabrielson Design at Queen of Hearts Antiques & Interiors cover a built-in bench in the breakfast nook, which has a table from RH.

A striped wall, using Duron's Tuscan Terra and Sherwin-Williams' Antique White, adds interest to the powder room, with a vintage mirror from Lakewood 400 Antiques Market.

A wine barrel table is actually a planter turned upside down, on the screened porch. The seating is from Pottery Barn Outlet with a rug from Joss & Main.

A small tray with a carafe, glasses and a pretty potted plant makes the screened porch ready for fun with family and friends.

To entertain outdoors, the Alpharetta homeowners recently added a patio with a custom-built fire pit.

Sean-Michael and Kristen Yonson, and their children Cole, 5, (left) and Connor, 3, moved into their new Alpharetta home in 2007. Sean-Michael works in finance and Kristen is co-founder of SwatchPop.com.

The Alpharetta home, built in 2007 by Whitehall Homes, has five bedrooms, four-and-a-half baths and about 4,000 square feet.

A collection of candleholders, mini planters and jars top a coffee table made of an old barn door in the Alpharetta living room. The rug is from West Elm.

The family's home has a mudroom with built-ins and a space for their dog, Ollie. The walls are painted Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter.

The upstairs landing has a cute nook with a table from Queen of Hearts Antiques & Interiors, and a chair and lamp from Pottery Barn Outlet. Accessories include a tin frame from the Yellow Daisy Festival, wood frame from Lakewood 400 Antiques Market and mirror from wisteria.com.
