One of Wendy Durnwald's antique kitchen scales sits in her dining room, holding a jar of buttons."When I saw it, my heart like skipped a beat," she said. "It's my favorite." When Durnwald was young, her grandmother had a large button collection she would spread out for her grandchildren. When her grandmother passed away, each grandchild kept some of the buttons.

Wendy Durnwald began collecting vintage kitchen scales about five years ago, after falling in love with one she saw in an antiques store. She uses the scales in her decor, and now hunts for unusual colors or shapes, avoiding plain white or black ones. On the hutch in her kitchen sit five of her scales, each one holding a sheep figurine that represents her love for sheep, the sheep pasture behind her home and each of her five children.
