An inside-the-perimeter location was the focus for Vince Bertucci and Chuck Vance, who purchased a new condo in White Provision Residences, which is adjacent to a historic building that was the Southeast’s first meatpacking facility.

Another plus was a reduction in city taxes because the mixed-use development is located in an enterprise zone (condo taxes are reduced by 60 percent through 2012 and then by smaller amounts through 2022).

Vance, 52, a senior product manager at AT&T, and Bertucci, 50, a freelance graphic designer, chatted about their west Midtown condo, which they found with the help of Ashley J. Webb, an agent with Harry Norman, Realtors.

Q: What was at the top of your list when searching?

Vance: Two bedrooms, two baths. We wanted a large living area. We wanted a kickin' bath. We wanted secure parking. We wanted controlled access to the unit.

We wanted to be able to walk to restaurants. We wanted [the neighborhood] to have a lot to offer right within the area without having to drive to it.

Q: How did the condo stand out?

Bertucci: After we walked in here, we just knew that this was right for us. It just fit our personality so much. We have a 25-foot terrace. We're only on the second floor, but we're up on a hill so we can see the city skyline. We had our own personal punch list of everything that we wanted. Everywhere else that we had looked, it was like a sacrifice of one thing or another. We got about 95 percent of what we were looking for here. The price was right. We couldn't let go.

Q: Did you know much about west Midtown?

Vance: We were already fans. It has a lot of restaurants that focus on sustainability. They are local, chef-driven restaurants. We have about 15 very good-to-great restaurants that we can walk to. It's really a unique spot in Atlanta.

Q: What features in the kitchen and bathrooms impressed you?

Bertucci: "We had always wanted a larger shower. We have gas appliances, which you really don't find that often in condominiums. Gas just cooks so much easier."

Q: What’s it like to live in west Midtown?

Bertucci: There's so much promise over here. The crowd is very mixed. You have Tech students all the way up to people our age. There's always music playing, there's art galleries. There's always something going on and there's something that appeals to somebody's taste. The Beltline is going to be going through here. That alone will add more promise to this area. It's really kind of exciting to see what's coming down the pike and what people are talking about. It really makes us want to be part of the community.
