Architects Jose Tavel and Carla Cummins merged their personal and professional lives into their new Old Fourth Ward home and studio.

The home of architects Jose Tavel and Carla Cummins is a reflection of their personal and professional lives.

The free-standing tub in the master bedroom is by Americh, which was made at the company's North Carolina factory.

The built-ins provide extra space for books and manuals. A sliding wall closes off the home-based business, TaC studios, from the private spaces.

... and the outdoor dining area.

Tavel and Cummings tried to blur the lines between indoor and outdoor in designing their Old Fourth Ward home, as evident in the staircase in the main living area ...

A light-filled corner of their studio is an ideal conference room for Cummins and Tavel to meet with their TaC clients.

Shelves display folk and African art. The artwork was created by Cummins, based on a photograph from their family vacation. Reconstituted wood comprises the chandelier over the dining room table.

The house has examples of the owners' unique decorating style.
