A 'groovy' Northcrest mid-century modern

Rebecca and Evan Pihera lucked out on a fully renovated home in Atlanta’s “groovy” Northcrest neighborhood.

Rebecca Pihera was six months pregnant with their second child when she and her husband, Evan, realized they needed more space. The couple focused on upsizing into a mid-century modern home. After an arduous journey, Rebecca said they lucked out on a fully renovated home in Atlanta's groovy Northcrest neighborhood. Rebecca says: "We do not plan on moving -- ever."

"We love modern style, but we also need comfortable and durable furniture that accommodates many people, animals and spills."

The versatile lower-level room, complete with a wood-burning fireplace, doubles as a swank lounge area for adults and as a "Dora the Explorer" viewing room.

The "Dora the Explorer" viewing room, near an adult gathering area, is conveniently located next to the kids' play area and an office.

"Evan is always cooking and coming up with new recipes. The large center island is a perfect size for him to come up with his creations," Rebecca said.

"The Rainforest marble island is the central point of the home," Rebecca points out.

"The original tongue and groove ceiling above is beautifully highlighted by unique cork lighting," Rebecca says.

The master bathroom has two sinks, perfect for a couple of busy parents.

The master bedroom features a reclaimed Indian wood bed and a naturally lit walk-in closet that was once a sunroom.

"The only tweaking that we had to do structurally was a gut-wrenching conversion of an incredibly beautiful master closet back into one of the original bedrooms," she said.

"The nursery is natural and soothing," Rebecca says.

"This 'big girl room' is more classically themed, and the walls are soon to be adorned with homespun artwork," Rebecca said.

Rebecca and Evan Pihera enjoy their backyard with its fire pit, "perfect for kids [and adults] roasting marshmallows." A privacy fence and a patio are among the amenities, and there's plenty of room for lounge chairs, a swing set and a trampoline.

The backyard is spacious and offers a great place for the Piheras' children to play.
