Gainesville, Georgia is ranked No. 5 in Forbes.com list of America's Best And Worst Housing Markets. Their rankings are based upon Zillow's Home Value Index which is part of their Second-Quarter Real Estate Market Report for 2009. According to Forbes, the real estate research firm's Home Value Index measures the value of all homes in a metropolitan statistical area or metro, not only those that sold in the measured period.

The Q2 Zillow Home Value Index for Gainesville is $139,100, which is a 4.2% increase year over year for the second quarter.

Gainesville is located in Hall County, about an hour north of Atlanta and is a popular tourist destination due to its proximity to Lake Lanier. It's also knows as the "poultry capital of the world." The relatively small residential population can enjoy the area amenities and a small-town living atmosphere complete with a thriving downtown hub of restaurants and shops.
