The McConaugheys were inspired by kitchens found in historic homes on Cumberland Island, traditionally staffed by servants. In their South Ponce de Leon Avenue home, dad gets help from the children as he makes fresh pasta.

Six-year-old Zadie and 4-year-old Wilson McConaughey are dad's sous chefs and official tasters. The family uses the kitchen daily for making fresh pasta, grilling or serving pancakes from the griddle.

Warner McConaughey, owner of design and renovation company HammerSmith Inc., followed his own advice when designing the family's kitchen: Start with a splurge item you love. In his and wife Allison's case, it was a 48-inch-wide professional grade Sub-Zero refrigerator.

The kitchen has several unique items that sets it apart from others. The dining area has aluminum Emeco Kong chairs designed by Philippe Starck.

Red knobs on the industrial Wolf range infuse the otherwise stark kitchen with a pop of color.

Warner McConaughey's favorite feature is the Miele coffee and espresso machine nestled into the wall. He says he hasn't been to Starbucks since buying it.

Deep drawers give the family extra storage. An adjoining pantry and wet bar give the family more room to store items while retaining the room's cozy feel.

The McConaugheys wanted to create an industrial-meets-elegant space. They used floor-to-ceiling milky tile and Italian soapstone countertops to achieve the look.
