Buckhead in Atlanta

Buckhead is an affluent community located in the north part of Atlanta.

Buckhead, just north of Midtown Atlanta, is best known for its shopping, including two malls across the street from each other, Lenox Square Mall and Phipps Plaza. The former hosts holiday celebrations, including a popular 4th of July fireworks show and a lighting of the tree ceremony to launch the Christmas season.

The Atlanta History Center is located in Buckhead, and on its grounds is The Swan House, designed by Atlanta architect Philip Shutze. This is a popular wedding and special event venue.

Bobby Jones golf course is an 18-hole public golf course. Part of the golf course grounds served as a battleground during the Civil War. Views of the Midtown skyline can be seen from certain vantage points.

The Ritz-Carlton Buckhead is a popular hotel for visiting celebrities. The award-winning Dining Room at the Ritz-Carlton is one of Atlanta's finest restaurants.

The wildly successful "Peachtree Battle" earned the title of the longest-running play in Atlanta theater history. The play about an eccentric Buckhead family drew raves from patrons.

Residents from all over the city come out to Chastain Park to enjoy live music and entertainment. The beautiful outdoor amphitheatre is one of the city's best known live music venues, and draws a "wine and cheese" crowd who bring elaborate picnics and candles to shows.

Buckhead is known for its luxury hotels, and the Hotel Intercontinental does not disappoint. A highlight for patrons is the XO Bar, which serves high-end cognacs to a sophisticated crowd. Patrons can also enjoy French cuisine at the adjacent Au Pied de Cochon.

Buckhead's skyline has changed in recent years with several modern, high-rise condo towers built in the area.

One of Atlanta's most popular sporting events, the Peachtree Road Race, has its starting line located in Buckhead, adjacent to Lenox Square Mall.

Lenox Square Mall is one of Atlanta's most popular shopping destinations.

You can't talk about Buckhead without talking about the neighborhood's multitude of mansions, and the tony Tuxedo Road area. Arthur Blank's sprawling estate is located there, and is for sale, though the current housing market has caused Blank to lower the asking price.
