Atlanta-based director, Kenny Leon is Broadway bound once again with his revival of Mark Medoff’s “Children of a Lesser God.”
Leon, the Tony Award winning founder and True Colors Theatre Company Artistic Director, first staged the production this summer with the Berkshire Theatre Group in Massachusetts.
“I want people to come to see this because Mark Medoff is a brilliant writer, and he’s written a beautiful love story. To me, this production is timely in our world, specifically our country, because we aren’t communicating with each other as beautifully as we can. If we did that, it would be a much more wonderful and exciting world," said Leon in a statement.
The production stars Joshua Jackson ("The Affair"), Lauren Ridloff (Wonderstruck), and Anthony Edwards (“ER”).
Jackson takes on the role of James Leed, the speech teacher at a school for the deaf who falls in love with Sarah Norman (Ridloff), a janitor at the school who has made the choice to remain speechless.
The original play, which debuted in 1979, was produced by Hal Luftig, who in 2014 announced his intentions to stage a revival of the Tony-winning production.
Leon’s production is the first revival of the play. Previews begin March 22, 2018 at Studio 54 in New York City.
