Who finished sixth on 'Dancing With the Stars'?

DANCING WITH THE STARS - "Episode 1908" - "Dancing with the Stars" paid tribute to well-known twosomes, both real and fictional, during "dynamic duo" night MONDAY, NOVEMBER 3 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET), on ABC. The duo dance styles included Jazz, Cha Cha, Contemporary and the Rumba. Additionally and for the first time this season, the couple with the highest overall score for the night was granted immunity from elimination. The duos who did not receive immunity then competed in a dance-off to earn extra judges' points in an effort to increase their overall score. (ABC/Adam Taylor) ARTEM CHIGVINTSEV, LEA THOMPSON

In a fairly shocking development, the man who starred in "Up in Smoke" has outlasted the mom in "Back to the Future" on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars."

Lea Thompson, who danced ballet as a teen, was surprisingly ousted tonight and finished a mere sixth place. Given how promising she was from the early weeks, a spot in the finale was not out of the question at first.

But the judges gave her a real hard time relatively speaking. She was penalized early and often. I thought she brought heart and elegance to the table, especially given her age (52.) I personally think her partner Artem Chigvintsev didn't do her any favors, designing mediocre routines that paled in comparison to those designed by Mark Ballas (Sadie Robertson) and Derek Hough (Bethany Moto).

On this show, the dance partner the celebrity gets often helps garner votes. And Artem was not adding that much value to the table.

This meant Tommy Chong made the top 5, a position I can't imagine anybody (including Tommy himself) thought he'd make. He brings oodles of personality but a set limited capability of what he can do. Heck, he is 76 years old. He is by far the oldest person to ever make the top 5. At this stage, I am thinking the voters are truly smoking something.  He had a cyst in his left knee but was still able to continue.

"You truly teach us less is more," said judge Carrie Ann Inaba,  "There's an elegance to the way you perform isn't about showing off or overdoing. It's staying within what is possible for you and making everybody believe in that. You are the true hero today."

He is averaging a 28.3 score out of 40 among the judges, which is tied for ninth out of all dancers. Several eliminated dancers have had higher judge scores, including Antonio Sabato Jr., Randy Couture and Jonathan Bennett.

The final three seems to have had two guaranteed slots since week two: Alfonso Ribeiro and Sadie Robertson. Bethany Moto and Janel Parrish will have to battle it out next week for the final slot.

Tonight, all six couples had to dance twice.

Both Alfonso and Sadie received perfect scores on their second dances. Janel's salsa almost received  four 10's. Bethany pulled in two 9s and two 10s for her Argentine tango. Tommy had the lowest scoring dance of the night with his samba (7's across the board.)
