, one of the first jocks at True Oldies 106.7, lost his job this week.

He's a bit  mystified. He suspects it was an upstairs decision. Scott Shannon, who runs the syndicated music format out of New York, he said, may have been a factor. Here's his email to me today:

Thanks,

Mark Richards, program director, said per Citadel Broadcasting policy, he couldn't comment on a personnel  issue.

Brooks, who did the 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. shift, has been at the station since June 2008, soon after the station launched in early 2008. (True Oldies supplanted country station Eagle 106.7)

"He knew what he was doing," said Spiff Carner, morning host. "He was steady Freddie, always volunteering to do what was needed. But radio is radio." He knows about job insecurity. He and his on-air partner Randy Cook have been on five different radio stations over the past decade.

Brooks has worked in radio since 1972, mostly in the Midwest. He had a morning show for 16 years in Omaha, Nebraska and was named into that state's radio hall of fame in 2003. His last job was in Kansas before coming to Atlanta in 2006. He worked weekends at sister station Kicks 101.5 in 2007 before joining True Oldies.
