WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. John Lewis appears to be the only Georgia Democrat who is planning to skip President-elect Donald Trump's Friday inauguration at the moment.
The Atlanta Democrat told NBC's "Meet the Press" that it will be the first presidential swearing-in he'll miss in his 30 years as a member of Congress.
"You cannot be at home with something that you feel that is wrong, is not right," he said.
When reached in recent days, the offices of Georgia's three other Democratic congressmen said their bosses plan to follow tradition and witness the peaceful transition of power from the West Front of the U.S. Capitol.
"The Congressman has attended inaugurations for every President since becoming a Member of Congress and will keep up this tradition this year," said Jonathan Black, a spokesman for Albany Democrat Sanford Bishop.
Rep. David Scott of Atlanta will also be in Washington with his wife to participate in the festivities.
As of Friday, Rep. Hank Johnson was tentatively planning to attend but was still grappling with the decision, according to his spokesman. The Lithonia Democrat is scheduled to headline a march for social justice and women's rights in Atlanta the following day.
Jimmy Carter was the first former president to RSVP for Trump's swearing-in.
All of that, however, was before Trump took to Twitter Saturday to hit Lewis' 5th Congressional District as "crime infested" and "falling apart."
No word yet on whether anyone has changed their mind as a result.
