Number of legislative days remaining: 26

House and Senate are in at 10 a.m., each with bills on their calendars. Likely the most notable to hit the floor will be House Speaker pro tem Jan Jones’ bill to tweak the HOPE scholarship.

With HB 801, Jones, R-Milton, wants to give a slight edge to students willing to take challenging courses in math, technology and science.

Also up in the House:

-- HB 402 would give businesses a workers compensation premium discount if they employ 16- and 17-year-olds as apprentices;

-- HB 421 would give state Department of Community Supervision employees access to disability benefits;

-- HB 815 addresses the inspection of commercially harvested quail;

-- HB 690 would allow veteran law enforcement officers to buy out service time to qualify for retirement;

-- and HB 691 clarifies the relationship between judges and cities, and addresses how a judge can be removed from the bench.

The Senate calendar won’t set off any fireworks either. On the calendar:

-- SB 199 addresses activities allowed near election polling places;

-- and SB 273 touches on non-diagnostic medical labs.
