Thursday's tip sheet: Making way for a long MLK weekend

The House and Senate will convene for short sessions at 10 a.m., the last of the week. Lawmakers still have nothing to debate (It will be a while before committees gear up and bills make their way to the floor.)
At 1 p.m., the first of many days of joint House-Senate committee and subcommittee hearings on the budget will begin.
Committee members will start reviewing the amended budget for the rest of this year, before moving on to the “big budget” for next year on Tuesday. Those are the meetings that attract packed rooms of lobbyists and state agency staffers and who want to make sure they get their piece of the pie.
Lawmakers won’t be back in session until Monday, Jan. 23. Next week will feature budget committee hearings and a break for the presidential inauguration on Friday, Jan. 20.
