Henderson, Nev. - Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton will hold a public campaign event in Atlanta on Oct. 30, her campaign announced today.
The Clinton campaign did not offer additional details on the visit, a make-up date from a canceled event that had been planned for last month.
Clinton won strong reviews for her performance in Tuesday's Democratic presidential debate in Las Vegas and she declared herself "really lucky in Las Vegas" late Wednesday after picking up the endorsement of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades just outside the city.
The Democrat has flexed her muscle in Georgia. She recently announced a list of about 60 Georgia supporters, headed by Rep. John Lewis, D-Atlanta, showing her stranglehold on the Georgia Democratic establishment. Southern states with high African-American populations have been seen as a possible firewall for Clinton, and Georgia's March 1 "SEC Primary" could help shape the race.
But her chief foe for the Democratic nomination, Bernie Sanders, has also shown he can generate excitement in Atlanta, in a visit last month. Another test also awaits Clinton on Oct. 22, when she testifies before the U.S. House committee investigating the Benghazi attacks, and will face tough questions about the email system she used as secretary of state.
At the union endorsement late Wednesday, an upbeat Clinton was more circumspect on another lingering question: Whether her strong debate performance was enough to dissuade Vice President Joe Biden from getting in the race.
“I’m going to continue to run my campaign and make my case for my candidacy. And everyone else, whether they’re in or they’re not in, will have to make whatever judgment is best for them,” she said, adding: “I just think he needs to decide what’s best for him and his family.”
