A few weeks ago, Duran Duran performed “Save a Prayer” with Eagles of Death Metal on London’s “TFI Friday” show.
Earlier last Friday, the day of the deadly attacks in Paris, the bands bumped into each other again on the Eurostar train – all on the way to Paris (Duran was performing for Al Gore’s Climate Change concert, which was eventually halted).
Since Saturday, Duran has fostered a Facebook campaign to boost their collaborative version to No. 1 on the U.K. charts by the end of this week. The page currently has more than 11,000 members.
The band has also vowed to donate all royalties from the sale of the “Save a Prayer” single with Eagles of Death Metal. (Watch their performance below.)
"There are a number of causes under consideration, all of which are peaceful, effective and unifying" Duran Duran said in a statement on their website.
Eagles of Death Metal released a lengthy statement on their Facebook page about the tragedy that occurred during their concert last Friday night at Paris' Bataclan theater. While no band members were injured, their merchandise man, Nick Alexander, was killed in the terrorist attacks, as were several record company representatives and a music journalist there to cover the concert.
Here the full statement from EODM.
While the band is now home safe, we are horrified and still trying to come to terms with what happened in France. Our thoughts and hearts are first and foremost with our brother Nick Alexander, our record company comrades Thomas Ayad, Marie Mosser, and Manu Perez, and all the friends and fans whose lives were taken in Paris, as well as their friends, families, and loved ones.
Although bonded in grief with the victims, the fans, the families, the citizens of Paris, and all those affected by terrorism, we are proud to stand together, with our new family, now united by a common goal of love and compassion.
We would like to thank the French police, the FBI, the U.S. and French State Departments, and especially all those at ground zero with us who helped each other as best they could during this unimaginable ordeal, proving once again that love overshadows evil.
All EODM shows are on hold until further notice.
Vive la musique, vive la liberté, vive la France, and vive EODM.
