After staying on the sidelines for the entire 2020 primary process, former President Barack Obama finally endorsed his Vice President of eight years on Tuesday, urging Democrats to rally around Joe Biden in his bid to knock President Donald Trump from office in November.

In a video statement, the ex-President said Biden was the right choice for voters in 2020.

"Choosing Joe to be my Vice President was one of the best decisions I ever made," Obama said, emphasizing Biden's experience, leadership, honesty, grace, and empathy.

"I believe Joe has all the qualities we need in a President right now," Obama added.

While Obama did not join in the 2020 campaign, his presence was felt repeatedly, as Biden regularly invoked his governing experience in the Obama Administration, and Bernie Sanders ran ads with Obama saying nice things about the Vermont Senator.

“Joe was there as we rebuilt from the Great Recession, and rescued the American auto industry,” Obama said, rattling off a series of reason for voters to back Biden over President Trump this year.

“He was the one asking what every policy would do for the middle class, and everyone striving to get into the middle class,” the former President said.

The Obama endorsement came a day after Sanders publicly endorsed Biden in a joint live stream appearance.

"We've got to make Trump a one term President," Sanders said from his home in Vermont.
