With Democrats getting ready for their second debate in Iowa this weekend, one of my sons got a quizzical look on his face as he asked me what story I was batting out on the computer Thursday night.

"You're writing about football?" he asked, peering over my shoulder at my laptop.

"Yes, I am," I said.

The reason I am writing about college football and politics, is that on Saturday, Democrats will hold their final debate in Iowa before the February 1, 2016 caucus.

And at the same time, the Iowa Hawkeyes will be on the field at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, with their fans hoping their team will win and move to 10-0 on the season.

Some have made clear they think the next two Democratic debates are on the weekend for one reason - to help Hillary Clinton.

So, what's it going to be, Iowa Democrats?

Will you be watching Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Martin O'Malley and their debate from Des Moines?

Or will you be watching your beloved Hawkeyes - in the conversation right now for the College Football Playoff?

The ratings will tell the story.

Here is Friday's front page in the Des Moines Register newspaper - getting more ink that the Democratic debate is how Iowa wrestling will have a big outdoor match.
