The morning after her loss to Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton publicly congratulated Trump on his victory, as she urged Americans to give the victor the opportunity to try to move the nation forward.
"Donald Trump is going to be our President," Clinton said. "We owe him an open mind and a chance to lead."
Flanked by her husband, the former President, this was not the way the Clinton Campaign had designed this day the election, as they were confident of victory as the polls began closing on Tuesday night.
But Trump's strength in key battleground states like Florida, North Carolina and Pennsylvania stopped Clinton's quest for the White House in its tracks.
She used her speech to thank those who worked for her.
"I want each of you to know - you were the best campaign anybody could have expected or wanted," Clinton said to applause from top staffers and others.
Clinton urged her supporters to stay involved in the future.
"This loss hurts, but please, never stop believing that fighting for what's right is worth it," she added, as Clinton spoke directly to younger girls who have watched her quest, telling them never to "doubt that you are valuable and powerful."
