Tyler Perry wants his son to see him in non-Madea roles

Part of the reason Tyler Perry took on the role as a mad scientist in "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows" is so his son can see him in the movies.

isn't quite 2, it'll be a while before he can see his dad in R-rated "Gone Girl," so Perry wanted him to have some options.

"I want my son to see me doing something other than Madea," Perry said during a visit to "The View."

He said his son, whose mom is Perry's girlfriend Gelila Bekele, is his "healer."

"This kid's amazing," he said. "Every time I look at him, I'm able to give him all the love I didn't get as a kid."

TMNT opens June 3. The next "Madea" installation, "Boo! A Madea Halloween," rolls out this fall. He posted this terrifying photo from the set.
