Toni Braxton honored by Urban League of Greater Atlanta

Singer and reality show star Toni Braxton was honored over the weekend at the 53rd Annual Urban League of Greater Atlanta Equal Opportunity Day Gala, held at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.

The power crooner and multiple Grammy winner was saluted for sharing her son's challenges with autism and her own struggle with lupus.

Her sisters Tamar Braxton, Trina Braxton and Towanda Braxton, along with mom Evelyn Braxton, whom viewers have gotten to know on the reality show "Braxton Family Values," all attended the event as did Urban League of Greater Atlanta Board Chairman Nick Nelson and Guild President Pamela Heglar also attended the event and "America's Next Top Model" winner Keith Carlos.

"This occasion serves to honor our supporters and individuals who share the commitment to equal opportunity and justice that the Urban League has promoted for more than a century," Urban League president and CEO Nancy Flake Johnson, who presented Braxton with the Woman of Empowerment Award.

Other Women of Empowerment Honorees included Adrienne Green, Pat Lottier, Victoria Jenkins, Toni Braxton, Alicia Philipp, Pertrise Perkins-Hooker and Jocelyn Dorsey.

Presenters included Georgia Piedmont Technical College president Jabari Simama and Wells Fargo senior vice president Pam Cross.
