A stunt performer reportedly has been seriously injured on the set of "The Walking Dead."

A source informed the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about the incident on Wednesday and indicated a medical helicopter transport had been necessary; a publicist for the hit AMC series has not responded to a request for comment.

Early Thursday, Deadline reported the news and later posted a statement from AMC:

"We are saddened to report that John Bernecker, a talented stuntman for The Walking Dead and numerous other television shows and films, suffered serious injuries from a tragic accident on set," AMC said in a statement today. "He was immediately transported to an Atlanta hospital, and we have temporarily shut down production. We are keeping John and his family in our thoughts and prayers."

This story is developing; we'll post updates as more information becomes available.
