Selena Gomez reveals she had a kidney transplant

Actress and singer Selena Gomez shared a powerful photo of the lifesaving gift a friend gave her: a kidney.

"There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me," Selena wrote in an Instagram post. "I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis."

Selena, 25, revealed her lupus diagnosis in 2015 and took a break from her career last year to deal with anxiety, panic attacks and depression stemming from her battle with the disease, the Associated Press reported. The disease causes fibrous tissue and inflammation of internal organs, skin rashes and joint pain. It affects women nine times more than men. Organs affected by lupus include the kidneys, heart and lungs.

She's spent time in Atlanta for roles in "Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising" and "The Fundamentals of Caring." During the latter she and co-star Paul Rudd made a visit to Antico and Gio's Chicken, where they hung out with owner Giovanni Di Palma and publicist Karen Canavan:

Francia, 29, is known for her role on "The Secret Life of the American Teenager."
