What. Was. This.

Fergie took center court to perform the Star Spangled Banner ahead of the 2018 NBA All-Star game and rendered the National Anthem nearly unrecognizable. (Scroll down for the video).

UPDATE: Fergie responds to National Anthem backlash. "I tried."

Instead of the usual patriotic vibe, the anthem sounded like something a jazz quartet would play at a lounge. People have lots of things to say about it.

Roseanne Barr's got jokes:

Bob Saget's working up a whole bit on it:

Can't argue ..

“When someone with the immense talent of Fergie fouls hard on the National Anthem, the idea of a strategic stunt comes to mind,” he said. “Did her struggling career need an NBA recharge with a planned stunt? Sometimes messing up at a big event can mean serious cash.”

Whether stunt or stumble, the performance and the strong reaction it spurred has the whole mess trending on Twitter.
