Katt Williams recently revealed he was the victim of an alleged major breach of trust by some of his former staff members.
Earlier this month, Williams, who has called metro Atlanta home for many years, was interviewed by sports journalist and media personality Jemele Hill for her podcast âJemele Hill is Unbothered.â He spoke about his peers in the comedy community and his own career during the 54-minute interview.
The âGreat Americaâ comedian also spoke on his former employees allegedly embezzling millions of dollars from him, which he said was discovered through a U.S. Department of Justice investigation.
âIn my search for who was the enemy that was causing all these things to repeatedly happen to me over and over again when they shouldnât, we uncovered that it was actually my people that was involved,â Williams told Hill during the interview. âWe didnât really know that until the Department of Justice started indicting these people for the embezzlement of $59 million from Katt Williams.â
The comic said he immediately fired the staff members who were accused, and said several of them retaliated by attempting to blackmail him.
Williams has faced a number of legal struggles over the years, but in past incidents, the comedian has been on the accused end, with arrests for criminal trespassing, intimidating witnesses and several probation violations.
During the âUnbotheredâ interview, he mentioned that he was nearly one of those indicted in his embezzlement case.
âThey thought I had found some way to sequester the funds until they actually dug in and realized âwhy would I be money laundering my own money,â Williams said. âItâs been a lot, and a lot of it you canât really talk about. Itâs ongoing.â
