Donald Glover, Ryan Gosling on shortlist to play ‘Willy Wonka’ in new reboot

Donald Glover, Ezra Miller, Ryan Gosling could play Willy Wonka. Warner Bros. is looking to give the legendary Willy Wonka his own origin story. The studio reportedly has its eye on some of the hottest young names in the industry for the titular role. The Willy Wonka movie is being directed by Paddington helmer Paul King. The script will be written by Simon Rich. The movie will explain how Willy Wonka became rich and started his chocolate factor empire.

Stone Mountain native Donald Glover is on the shortlist to be the next "Willy Wonka" in Warner Bros.' reboot of the film, according to a new report from Collider.

Actors Ryan Gosling and Ezra Miller are also reportedly in the running for the Paul King-directed remake.

“While Glover might be the hottest name of the three on the list, he is the only one currently hard at work with other studios,” Comicbook.com reported.

In addition to FX’s “Atlanta,” Glover was recently in “Solo: A Star Wars Story” and will play Simba’s voice in the 2019 Disney live-action adaptation of “The Lion King.”

Miller currently stars in Warner Bros.’ “Fantastic Beasts” franchise and plays The Flash in the DC Comics movies.

Gosling also has ties to the studio with “Blade Runner 2049,” “Crazy, Stupid Love” and more.
