Without pi, the near-magical ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, we wouldn’t really understand the concept of roundness. Pi is integral to a wide range of mathematical formulae that describe the natural world, from Einstein’s Theory of Relativity to Kepler’s Laws of Planetary Motion to basic Euclidean geometry. That’s why pi is celebrated each year on March 14, the date that corresponds with pi’s simplest value, 3.14. Though it’s meant to be a day of recognition for the mathematical constant, Pi Day has become a major food holiday for restaurants serving pizza and pies. Read on for eight of metro Atlanta’s best Pi Day deals for 2020.
This deal is brief, but it’s worth scheduling around - Brezza Cucina, the upscale Italian restaurant in Ponce City Market, will sell Margherita pizzas at a special price of $3.14 from 3-4 p.m. this Pi Day, Saturday, March 14. Normally $15, this is a major discount on a meticulously-crafted gourmet pizza. Get this deal while it’s hot, because it will only last one hour.

The Tucker location of build-your-own pizza restaurant Your Pie has a similar deal, but there are a few extra steps. This Saturday, the restaurant is offering its 10-inch signature pizzas for $3.14 to loyalty program members who claim the deal through the Your Pie Rewards App. Get the deal by downloading the app at the Your Pie website ahead of time to claim the deal, then show your cashier the app at checkout. At least that’s simpler than solving equations with pi in them.

Why get one pizza when you can get three pies? They’re hand pies, but still - the math on this is solid. Bojangles will offer three sweet potato pies for $3.14 all day this Saturday at all of the restaurant chain’s locations. That low price plus a freshly-baked sweet potato hand pie brushed in cinnamon butter adds up to an excellent deal.

If that's not sweet enough, support a local pie maker and indulge your competitive side with the Pie-lympics at Woodstock's Pie Bar. Inspired by this year's Summer Olympics, Pie Bar will have a variety of non-sanctioned games like mega Jenga and cornhole, plus plenty of pie for sale either whole or by the slice. The event is planned for the sweet shop's Woodstock location from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m., and there's a virtual guarantee that more pie will be consumed than at the actual Summer Olympic Games.

Breaking news: there's such a thing as healthy pies. This Saturday, local healthy breakfast company Happy Camper will host a Pi Day Pop Up at the Inman Park newcomer Field Day. On a mission to provide healthy convenience food, Happy Camper will be toasting gluten-free and vegetarian hand pies at the restaurant, as well as selling East Pole coffee from which 5% of the proceeds will be donated to the disaster relief effort in the wake of the Nashville tornadoes.
