Atlanta breweries did very well at this year's Great American Beer Festival, held Oct. 5-7 in Denver — with Monday Night bringing home two medals, and Max Lager's, Torched Hop and SweetWater grabbing one medal apiece.

In honor of those accomplishments, the most readily available of the bunch, SweetWater TripleTail IPA, which recently went from a seasonal to a year-round offering, is this week’s Beer Pick.

Beer Pick

TripleTail Tropical IPA

SweetWater Brewing Co., Atlanta

Available year-round in 12-ounce bottles, cans, and on draft.

Profile

Of course, fruit-juicy-forward beers are the thing right now. And at 5.5 percent, this mild, medal-winning IPA gets the tropical flavors in its name from a blend Bravo, Mosaic, Denali and Waimea hops, balanced by wheat, pilsner and Carapils malts.

Beyond the pale gold color, and bubbly white head, look for notes of papaya, pineapple and passionfruit among the citrus aromas and flavors. A touch of caramel on the palate meets a snap of bitterness in the finish for a nice balance.

Pair with

Not as overpowering as many IPAs, Triple Tail leans more toward the pale ale side as far food friendliness. Try pairing it with grilled meats, a cheese and charcuterie plate, or slice of warm apple pie with a slice sharp cheddar melted on top.
