Popular sports bar and restaurant Dantanna’s has closed its downtown Atlanta location inside CNN Center after 12 years.

The restaurant announced the closure on its Facebook page, Eater Atlanta first reported.

Due to the societal changes resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made the very difficult decision to close our Downtown location in CNN Center. After more than a decade of success, serving old and new friends, we do not feel our business model of hosting large parties and groups is sustainable, at least in the foreseeable future. We will be focusing all our efforts on our original Dantanna’s location in Buckhead at the Shops Around Lenox and hope to see you there very soon (we are open for dine-in, patio seating, and takeout). We want to sincerely thank you, and the wonderful people at Turner Properties, for your support of Dantanna’s Downtown over the last decade, and for your ongoing support as we all rebuild together. Stay safe and healthy.

- David (Clapp) & Jay (Kazlow)

The restaurant’s CNN location had been closed since March due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Buckhead location, which opened in 2003, continues to offer takeout and delivery as well as dine-in and patio service.

The employees at the downtown location have been offered jobs at the Buckhead location. The restaurant is also  hiring experienced servers and support staff; interested parties can apply in person daily between 2 and 4:30 p.m.

A representative for the restaurant attributed the downtown location’s closure to a variety of factors in addition to shelter in place orders, including road closures in the area and a major hit to Dantanna’s regular clientele bases including downtown businesses, conventions and fans going to see concerts and sports events at neighboring Mercedes-Benz Stadium and State Farm Arena.

Known for its steaks, seafood and wine, Dantanna’s replaced Jocks & Jills Sports Grill when it opened in 2008. The restaurant is named for founder David Clapp’s children, Dan and Anna.

Dantanna's is the latest food and beverage concept casualty due to the coronavirus economic impact. Other recent closures include Mother Bar + Kitchen in Old Fourth Ward, Ebrik Coffee Room in downtown Atlanta and The Canteen and Simon's in Midtown.
