Atlanta Workshop Players offering free workshop for aspiring actors

For all my aspiring actors in the Hollywood of the south, now is your time!
The nonprofit organization, Atlanta Workshop Players (AWP), is hosting a free industry workshop geared towards those looking to break into the film industry. The workshop will be for parents of young actors and for adults pursuing a career. “We see this as an opportunity to not only train performing artists and filmmakers but also to nurture them as human beings,” said Atlanta Workshop Players executive director, Lynn Stallings. “Then it enhances communities and empowers the students to realize that they can, and they do, have a huge impact on their world.” With such a thriving film and television industry, these types of workshops can be super helpful for you or even someone you know.
I’m no actress but I know there is so much to learn when it comes to the film business – that’s why the Atlanta Workshop Players are going to cover a number of topics that’ll be helpful for those looking to make their big break. “We talk about networking and how to avoid getting ripped off … That happens a lot. There’re some companies that will charge thousands of dollars to put you in front of a group of agents, and typically, a more targeted approach is more effective and far less expensive,” said Stallings.
AWP also emphasizes that it’s not only focused on the business side, it also aims at building relationships and making sure you try to leave a good impression on everyone you work with. “Careers have longevity when you’re the easiest person on the planet to work with,” Stallings said. “So, if each project is a collaboration filled with respect, if it’s about relationships and honoring each other, then that’s when the magic happens.”
While this weekend’s workshop is an amazing opportunity, it’s not the only experience AWP has to offer. The group offers a film school for all age groups, classes, workshops, writer’s camps and so much more. Find out more information about them at atlantaworkshopplayers.com.
The industry workshop is happening this Saturday, Aug. 27 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. To reserve a spot visit, atlantaworkshopplayers.com/workshops.
