Wine Shoe helps women, minority vintners put their best foot forward

We all enjoy a good glass of wine, but appreciating the craft involves more than just picking a bottle from your fridge and hoping for the best.
When Access Atlanta attended a wine tasting event at Wine Shoe in Castleberry Hill (just two blocks from Mercedes-Benz Stadium) we learned quite a few things, including the five S’s of wine tasting: see, swirl, sniff, sip and savor.

Wine Shoe is a woman-owned, independent, local boutique that features small wineries and family vineyards that do not have representation in big box stores. They highlight female and minority winemakers and vineyard owners, as well as wines suitable for gifting or stocking your cellar.
Krishna Chapatwala’s intimate shop is a place where you can learn about wine and enjoy the company of your friends and family in a casual atmosphere. They offer a wine club and regular tasting events for small and large groups so that you can learn more about those classy reds, whites and bubbles no matter the occasion or size!

“In a private tasting, often a birthday party or a girl’s night out, we do the wine tasting for four or five wines. You tailor the line-up of all reds, all whites or mix and match. And for our public tastings we’ll offer food and wine pairings, and even pop-in tastings,” Chapatwala said.
Public tasting events are regularly posted on Wine Shoe’s website, Instagram and Facebook. For example, on Saturday, Aug. 20, they will host a walk-in Pinot Noir tasting. And on Saturday, Aug. 27, they will host an Old World vs. New World tasting complete with food pairings.
In addition to being an expert on wine, this year, Krishna was chosen for Atlanta’s Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative, a municipally funded program that aims to elevate, engage, and empower women entrepreneurs. For each WEI Cohort, only 15 companies are chosen. We can cheers to that!
