Once every century – this year, on 3/14/15 at 9:26:53am., we celebrate Pi Day of the Century. SXSW Interactive attendees joined Wolfram for free Pi(e), contests, and a special selfie station to capture the moment in 2015. Suzanne Cordeiro / For AMERICAN-STATESMAN
Can you feel it snowballing?
South by Southwest Interactive energy is building up and by this time next week, we’ll only be days out from the March 11 kickoff of the fest.
Over here in Statesman land, our coverage plans are lining up and I can tell you what to expect and what we’ve got so far:
- With Monday's final keynote announcement, we have a complete picture of who'll be in the five slots from Opening to Closing. This year, the fest seems be eschewing household/celebrity names in favor of on-topic experts, covering the range from entrepreneurism to emotional intelligence to diversity in tech to work/life balance.
- As reported earlier, SXSW Gaming is going through some big changes this year and we'll be keeping an eye on how well-attended it will be in its new time slot and venue.
- Like hardware? SXSW Hardware House is happening at WeWork Congress March 11-14.
- SXSW will be extending an invitation to all badgeholders to check out the March 10 closing of SXSWedu (space permitting). The lines seem to be blurring a bit between the disparate festivals and it's not surprising that there's some convergence action happening between edu and Film, Interactive and Music.
- Grumpy Cat is returning to the fest. Of course.
- This week's "Statesman Shots" podcast drops a lot of knowledge about what to expect at SXSW Music and next week's episode, to be posted March 3, will be about what our plan of attack is for SXSW Interactive and Film.
- Reliable source of scheduling info Sched.org will NOT be offering a schedule for 2016.
- Austin Music Source has been killing it with reports on individual parties and RSVPs, go check them out.
- It sounds like Jimmy Kimmel will NOT be returning to tape a week of shows at SXSW this year but will be sending a crew to film segments instead. Doesn't late night TV love SXSW anymore?
- My guide to Interactive, including some of the best stuff you can do without a badge and what to expect, will run a little earlier than most years, mid next week. We also will have a big 30th year SXSW from Peter Blackstock en route next week and lots more coverage of everything from the Online Harassment Summit to daily picks as we head into the week of March 11.
