The Children’s Museum of Atlanta is officially closed for renovations until later this year, but you can catch the “Imaginators on the Go!” at free events in the community throughout the month of August. The fun starts today with a special kiddie cotillion.
The renovated museum will host two new permanent exhibits, a new 3,000 square foot mezzanine level, a permanent space for the Imaginators and more. Until then, the Imaginators, the museum’s group of professional actors and educators, will make special appearances at family friendly events, libraries and bookstores with educational activities for kids such as storytime and interactive play. All workshops are based on the Museum’s exhibits and the Common Core and Georgia Performance Standards.
Imaginators from the Children’s Museum of Atlanta will make appearances in the community while the museum is closed for renovations.

Royal Kiddie Cotillion
Thursday, August 13 from 7 – 8 p.m., Little Shop of Stories, 133A East Court Square, Decatur
Little ones will get to become a prince or princess and learn to curtsy or bow, and dance a simple waltz in this fun cotillion class. The Imaginators will help children explore and refine their social and communication skills.
BBQ, Blues & Bluegrass Festival
Saturday, August 15 from 12 – 8 p.m., Oakhurst at 630 East Lake Drive & Harmony Park
Visit the Children's Museum of Atlanta booth to play games and learn more about the Museum's renovation project.
Storytime
Available Sundays (Aug 16, 23 and 30) from 3 – 4 p.m. , Little Shop of Stories, 133A East Court Square, Decatur
The Imaginators will lead a special storytime for kids at this popular Decatur bookstore.
Toddler Turnout
Monday, August 17 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Centennial Olympic Park, 265 Park Ave W NW, Atlanta
The Imaginators will lead some favorite Museum programs, including Music and Movement, Storytime and Arts and Crafts, with a fun caterpillar theme in downtown Centennial Olympic Park. They will read "The Very hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle for the storytime activity. Then, during the craft, kids can make their own caterpillar, using pom poms, mini goggle eyes, pipe cleaners, and their own butterfly, using tissue and construction paper.
Where in the World and You and Me?
Thursday, August 20 from 7 – 8 p.m., Little Shop of Stories, 133A East Court Square, Decatur
Children are invited to take a musical journey through Canada, Mexico and the U.S.A. Whether they are helping the Imaginators figure out what continent they live on or singing songs about this great country, guests will learn all about the continent of North America!
CMA Pop Up!
Available Fridays (August 21 and 28) from 12 – 2 p.m., Centennial Olympic Park , 265 Park Ave W NW, Atlanta
The Imaginators are set to lead a dance party celebrating cultures around the world. Children will take a pretend trip around the world while dancing and having fun.
Toddler Turnout
Monday, August 24 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Centennial Olympic Park, 265 Park Ave W NW, Atlanta
The Imaginators will lead some favorite Museum programs, including Music and Movement, Storytime and Arts and Crafts, with a fun ladybug theme. For Music and Movement, children will act out how ladybugs and other insects crawl around. During storytime, the Imaginators will ready "The Very Lazy Ladybug" by Isobel Finn and Jack Tickle. Then, for the craft, kids can create their own lady bug, using red paper plates, glue, pipe cleaners, black tissue paper and big goggle eyes.
Sounds All Around
Thursday, August 27 from 7 – 8 p.m., Little Shop of Stories, 133A East Court Square, Decatur
Children will learn what sound looks like, how it works and more. They will also be able to put their listening skills to the test.
Sharpstone's Treasure
Saturday, August 29 from 10 – 12 p.m., Aurora Theatre, 128 E Pike St, Lawrenceville
Families are invited to join Centennial Jones and Sam, as they search for buried treasure in this 20-minute interactive musical. Admission is $7 and performances take place at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
Grant Park Summer Shade Festival
Sunday, August 30 from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m., Grant Park, 840 Cherokee Ave SE, Atlanta
Kids can help Imaginators Beebo and Ravioli put together a spectacular circus. Children can be a clown, an acrobat or even a circus animal.
Ms. Mary's Ice Cream Crankin'
Sunday, August 30 from 2 – 4 p.m., Roswell First Baptist, 710 Mimosa Blvd, Roswell
The Children's Museum is hosting a booth at the 11th Annual Miss Mary's Ice Cream Crankin', the premier event for ice cream lovers and families. Entry to the event is $6 per person and $20 per family (up to 6 members)

August 31 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Centennial Olympic Park, 265 Park Ave W NW
The Imaginators are set to lead some favorite Museum programs, including Music and Movement, Storytime and Arts and Crafts, with a spider theme. Children can sing along to "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" during the Music and Movement program. For storytime, the Imaginators will read "The Very Busy Spider" by Eric Carle. Then, for the snack time craft, children will fill in a spider coloring sheet and create their very own "spider snack," using Oreo cookies, pretzel sticks and M&Ms).
