Do you have a particularly fast pet hamster, a little furry friend that can really rock and move a hamster ball?

Well, here’s your chance for your tiny pet athlete to prove it — and win some prices (and yes, bragging rights) in Petco’s annual “Hamster Ball Derby” Saturday. Participation is free and registration starts at 1:30 p.m. Races are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. Saturday and are planned for Petco’s across the country, including metro Atlanta stores.

To see what it looks like, check out this video:

Expect to see tracks set up. The furry critters will run in plastic “run about balls” to the finish line.

Families and hamster race enthusiasts are invited to bring their pet hamster and hamster ball to their local Petco store or just go to watch and cheer on the small companions make their way to the finish line.

The speediest hamster at each Petco will be awarded with a “Kaytee CritterTrail habitat.”
