It is great when you have a family that will be supportive when you are trying to use coupons. I have found that couponers who are new to couponing will need all of the support that they can get from their family or spouse.
Here are a couple of ways to empower your spouse or family to use coupons and support you in the process.
Have them focus on what they love the most
My teenage children will ask for items that are sometimes not on sale or where there is a coupon available. I encourage them to always search for sales on items and then try to pair those sales with the coupons we have. They have become a little better with this task.
They are starting to realize that they can save money out of pocket by looking for sale items and using coupons. When your families have certain products that they love the most and you see a coupon that they can use, have them clip them out of the insert.
Get all hands on deck
When you finally go to the store, be prepared and don’t forget the coupons other family members have clipped. If they are going with you, help them prepare their shopping list and attach the coupons they will be using.
After you get all of their items and your shopping is complete, proceed to checkout. Double check those coupons and make sure you have the correct item and product. This will help prevent check out problems. Even if it is just 1 or 2 items, be sure to talk about the shopping trip with them including the planning and see if they enjoyed the experience or not.
At least they will start to see what you have to do in order to prepare for a shopping trip. Continue to encourage your family to find coupons to save money on items they need. When there is an item that is super cheap and they truly love it, stock up! They will thank you. Trust me, I know.
